Charity: CARE International UK
Challenge:  London to Brighton Cycle Challenge
Dates: 10/04/2010 -10/04/2010
Deposit: £ 30
Minimum Sponsorship: £  150
Grade:  Moderate

You will be cycling out of London from Kingston upon Thames past the historic and beautiful Hampton Court Palace and into the scenic Surrey countryside. From there you will continue over both the North and the South Downs and on into Brighton.

First Stop:
Ranmore Common
The first stop of the day comes shortly after a picturesque climb over the North Downs leading you through stunning National Trust land and out onto Ranmore Common. Here you can have a quick breather and refill your water bottles and energy supplies with a snack before continuing on. A descent into Dorking and off the North Downs will take you into the Sussex countryside, through the vibrant rural villages of Newdigate and Faygate. After Faygate you will be cycling on small quiet country lanes through the impressive St Leonard’s Forest and onto your final lunch stop before Brighton.

Lunch:
Slaugham Common
After a well deserved carbohydrate fuelled lunch, you will embark on the Sussex South Downs and your final push to Brighton. Before cycling down into Brighton you will have a steep climb up the renowned Devil’s Dyke where you will be rewarded with amazing views of the South Downs behind you and Brighton and the sea in front.

Celebration Finish:
Brighton Pier
The ride will culminate with a celebratory finish at Brighton Pier followed by a well earned drinks reception.

Overall Summary of Route:
Distance: approx 90km/56miles
Ascent: 1131m
Descent: 1128m

We estimate that the ride should take around 5-6hours (including stops). Obviously this is dependant on the fitness of each group and other variables such as weather and such issues.
